I remember evertime there was a cold snap in Manchester we would have an inordinate amount of 'sudden death' calls. We would find old people literally dying of hypothermia in windy, badly insulated homes.
I bet there's plenty of old Brit's snuffing it on this one, poor buggers.
"commanderkai" said Strange that Ireland looks as green as ever.
I know, a lot of people thought it was a hoax...once I found a legitimate news organization, and not a blog, I posted it.
I'm a bit of a weather geek and being a Brit I know a little about the weather patterns.
This particular cold/warm front that precipitated some much snow followed up with a severe cold front is a result of air masses and weather systems flowing east to west. As in from the northern European land mass, blowing in a SW pattern. These invariably bring arctic weather systems which are usually challenged by NE temperate weather from the warm Atlantic gulfstream.
In this case due to convection, the SW fronts condensed over the British high ground of the Pennines and Grampians etc, falling as snow before they could get as far west as Ireland. This is a less than usual weather pattern but easily explained. Ireland stays green because of British hills!
You're not kidding. It's 5 deg on top of Cypress right now, malting all teh snow they reserevd for the Olympics. Anotehr warm front moving in right now.

We had the same thing happen in 1988 with chinook after chinook hitting the ski slopes right before and during the Calgary games. As far as problems go it wasn't enough to stop Alberto Tomba from winning five downhill golds, or something like that.
Stuff happens. That's what the artifical snow-making equipment is there for anyway.

Besides there's still lots of time for snow to fall. But if it doesn't, be prepared for three weeks of media-saturated hand-wringing about global warming ruining the Olympics.
