Federal politicians of all stripes are voicing support for a Liberal senators effort to change the name of the Canadian Forces Maritime Command to the one that most Canadians understand: the Canadian Navy.

    Royal Canadian Navy is preferred.

Yeah, renaming it will solve all its problems. This is a MUCH better solution than replacing some of the decrepit tubs.
Way to go Parliment. Way to pretend to do something while you actually do NOTHING to improve it in any way shape or form!
I defintely agree that it SHOULD be called a navy, but we NEED a navy first.
It would certainly be nice to see the self-congratutory mopes in Ottawa quit mouthing fatuities and actually DO something that done in Canada for the sake and benefit OF Canada!

Unlikely to happen. We'll have to be happy with 'Navy'.

Yeah, yer prolly right. But a guy can pipe dream can't he?

On a side note. If you google "size of Canadian navy" the Navy Gallery from this site is listed 4th, if you ignore the sublistings from the 2 of the sites above it.

So should they do nothing until all the big things are done?

Highly unlikely. Any references to Canada having any links to the UK are verboten.

Those Brits never had anything to do with Canada.

That's why we celebrate our diversity post 1967. Nothing happened in Canada until then.

If they rename it, they won't be able to market to their prime demographic for new cadets using that old Village People tune:

I guess the name should be changed, but, uh, I feel like there are more important things to be doing/changing.

    That's pretty much what they're doing..nothing.
OMG, look at that gaping wound in your abdomen, here, let me put a strip of scotch-tape over it.

I'm all for calling it the Royal Canadian Navy when it deserves such a name. Until such time, the more appropriate name would be the Royal Canadian Task Force.

Mind you, no offence to anyone.

This Royal thing won't play well in Mississauga et al where our British links are a dirty secret....

And just disregard our naval heritage?

Coming from a Quebecker, in a province where heritage is everything.

    Slightly hypocritical.
