This is where that stimulus money from last year should have gone.

The Navy will be a shell of it's former self, which was pretty much a shell anyways. They should be throwing billions at them instead at a time when they are trying to recruit and we have to deal with a little thing called the Arctic. Pretty outrageous. Have they not learned that neglect in the short/medium term costs much more in the long?

Not surprising, considering there aren't enough sailors to operate all those ships anyway without multiple pier head jumps. At last count before I retired last year, the navy was short 75 Cert 3 Mar Engs to operate the ships.

Nuggie has it right, the navy is so short personnel that doing this makes sense and unfortunately it isnt the first time it has happened. My first ship was the Annapolis and it was put alongside the wall in order to find bodies for the new CPF's then they did the same thing with the Huron. The Kingston which is manned by the reserves have never been more than 50% operational due to manning issues.

The current issue is that 2 years ago the Federal government stated that the funding for afghanistan is to come from the yearly military budget, hmmmm the military is being run by the Army, big shocker the Navy is getting screwed.

I work in recruiting for the military, and no one wants the Navy jobs we have more than 500 available for this year, in comparison we had 190 crewman positions and they were gone before the first of may. There is something very seriously wrong here

While the dark days of the 90's might be over for the army, their still in the dark days in the anvy. This is shameful. Our navy deserves more respect than this.

Hmph. I've already commented on this topic on another thread. What a sad day for Canada.
