The order to cut Canada's 12 coastal defence vessels by half has been rescinded just one day after it was announced, according to the country's chief of defence staff.

For those who think this is a game, it is not. The Admiral who issued this order was fully aware that this would focus the attention of Canadians immediately after the celebration of the 100th anniversary. Will he have to "fall on his sword" as a result of having caused such a public outcry - you are damn right he will.. To have his order reversed leaves him with no credibility and no sea room to maneuver. However, like the Admirals during the Liberal amalgamation debacle, he has done the honourable thing by sacrificing himself to draw attention to an unacceptable situation. For serving Naval personnel and those who ardently follow these issues, they will respect him for his devotion to his sailors, the service and ultimately, his country even if the majority of Canadians do not comprehend what just happened.
Think this was a case of "I'll show you you Politician son's of B@*$hs, I'm retiring this year anyhow!"
"gonavy47" said Need more frigates and subs, not patrol boats.
We need both.
Buying frigates for coastal patrol and all of the myriad of other mundane tasks like fisheries patrols, SAR patrols, SOVPATs and MARSECPATs is like the local security company buying Hummers to check on house alarms. Too expensive for the sea days required. Frigates should focus on the blue water taskings, not on the littoral.
I don't know if this is good or bad...
Yeah...
