We are there at the invitation of the Afghan government and the United Nations. We will not be intimidated and will stay the course with our partners."

Good on BOB RAE but if we were to stay the course with our partners there wouldn't be a pullout next year we would actually commit to the mission and put resources into winning

NATO/US blew it. They should have deployed massive troops in the beginning, when they were getting hugged by people on the street as liberators. Stabilize/reform the country then. This mess will be an undying legacy of Bush/Rumsfeld, from which likely the west will suffer for many years to come. Even now there arenn't enough troops there to really change things. Sure the surge will push back the Talibani, but as soon as the NATO leaves, the Talibs will be back. By now the only way to solve it is in Pakistan, and good luck with that one.
