Protesters march against Arizona immigration law

Why are people making such a big deal of what is basicly the state enforcing law? Cracking down on immigrants who are there illegally. Oh my god, what a horrible thing to do.

I'd like the government to check into all those protestors immigration status. 5 bucks sais either some of them are illegal immigrants themselves or have family members who are illegal immigrants.

Also when you are a state suffering from massive drug trade which naturally fuels gang violence and activity. You'd think the citizens would support cops cracking down on illegal immigrants who bring the shit in.

Roughly 11 million people are thought to be living in the U.S. illegally. Sounds like a hardened immigration law and enforcement is exactly what they need.

It's merely enforcing laws that are already on the board.

Some of the protestors are illegals, like try keeping them away seeing as their means to a livelyhood is at stake.

And they are not exactly illegal, they are quasi-illegal as everyone, Congress, has encouraged them for a long time.

They are enforcing laws on the books, people who are in this country legally have no problems. I find it interesting that Federal law enforcement officials who are against the law, for the most part, haven't even read it. They are arguing through ignorance which most of our elected officials do quite frequently about a great many things.

What's really irritating is the stupidity of some members not to see why this is a bad law.

The officers are not going to question "white people," just dark skinned Mexican looking.

There are plenty of Irish, Russian, Asian and even Canadian's living in Arizona who have either stayed past their Visa requirement of the 6 months.

Do you think when stopped by a police office, they will be questioned or have to show proof of citizenship if they are "white".

It requires the officer to racial profile individuals to enforce the law.

Also, if you see a murder, robbery, rape, drug trafficking or other violent crime, and are illegal in the country... will you come forward, knowing that you could be required to show your status?

The law is counterintuitive to fighting real crime..

Just the perception that you will have to prove your status to a police officer, and may be deported if illegal, will make it more difficult dealing with witnesses. It's already hard enough to get information from witnesses, without adding further disincentives to come forward.

I doubt every officer with only target people of that appearance. However most likely that will be correct. So what? That's not racism, it's the fact that state lives very close to a country who's population all reflects that type. A lot of who'm try to illegally enter the states. Not to mention it said in the article that majority of that state was infact latino. I find it hard to not expect officers to look for people of that type considering that. If it makes them feel better, they can encourage officers to hassle white and black folks too (You forgot to mention black folks).

That's like if there was a African province with a lot of european immigration and population. That majority of the province is infact white and there are a lot of white illegals. They want to crack down on these illegals, who do you think the police are generally going to look for? They wouldn't go looking for black illegal immigrants. They would go straight for the facts which in this fictional example, would be that most of the illegal immigrants are white and that is what they are generally going to be looking for.

Last night Masachussets passed basically the same law. This law passes in the bluest of the blue states, so much for the racist BS.

Personally I have little sympathy with illegal immigrants to Canada, the US or anywhere really.

I had to jump through numerous hoops to get into Canada. I had to pay a lot of my hard earned cash just to get in and then I had to retrain and go back to school in order to get a job in my field of interest. These �illegals� are queue jumpers. Nothing else.

A country should be able to control that most basic of sovereign rights. Saying who gets to become a new citizen and who gets to come in the country.

Flinging open the door or turning a blind eye to millions of illegal immigrants makes a mockery of the whole system and discriminates against those of us who play by the rules and wait our turn.
