Quebec man loses fight to keep home above gold mine

Quebec govt is a bunch of assholes! We have a quite similar situation going on about 18 miles from my home. Coal mine wants to expand, Province gave them green light. Expansion area includes several 3rd generation farms. The mining Co made very good offers to the landowners. Some accepted. For those who didn't, the province told the mining company to 'leave the people alone who don't want to sell. Don't fuck with their access to their property. Mine around them'!

I sympathize a little, but this guy is trying to take this company for a ride. They offered him 350k for a house with a value of 15k, and he was asking for a million.

That shouldn't have any bearing on the situation at all Ruez. The fact of the matter is that the family are the legal OWNERS of the property.

Then any time 'big biz' comes along, and wants what we have, they know whose palms to grease so that they can legally steal it'! This is so wrong on so many levels.
I own my home. Bought and paid for. Maybe to some it ain't much. To me, I've put my 'heart and soul' into this place for the last 5 years. Market value is certainly a lot less than 1 Mill, but if I say that's what I want before I would sell, then that's what I'll damn well get, or someone gonna get hurt real bad if they try to 'force me out'!

So you "buy" your house, pay your interest on the mortgage, and then it turns out it never was your house in the first place?
If the government can just "order you to leave", it never really was your property, was it...

Fail. He owns till the buyer meets his price. Same as anything else anyone owns. Govt & their 'big Biz Buddies' can go fuck themselves!

Well, of course! The family OWNS the property. They should be able to ask/ demand 10 million dollars if thats what they want to do. If someone else wants the property, for any reason, they can pay the asking price or bugger off. In this particular situation, for the sake of argument, I would say that it's a pretty safe bet that the mining Co expects to recover more than $350,000 since the house is sitting on one of the largest gold reserves in Quebec!

Yup, you have no right to your property under the constitution so this is perfectly within the law. So arguing if this guy should have lost the home he owned, but really didn't have a right to, is moot. What needs to be argued in this country is that fact we have no property rights in Canada.

If do find it funny that when I posted a story about a 200 year family property being expropriated a few months ago because the Army wanted expand a military base in Ontario just to blow s@it up and stuff most people responding were all for it. Yet when it involves an activity that would be a great benefit to the local and national economy all the comments are against it.

The city (Malartic) is near where i'm from and I've been there a lot of time. My aunt lives there.


They literally moved half the city's houses (at the company's expenses). That guy was trying to prove that since he owned the property, he owned what was under. That conflict is lasting since like 5 years.

The problem is that under X feets below the earth level, it is crown's property. I would say I'm proud of him to keep his point until the end but now he will loose a lot.

Last time I went in Malartic it was like the city was a big construction site. That's quite strange to see that.
