Wow...

At least he finally stepped forward and did the right thing. Although I'm still a little sceptical about his daughters complete innocence in the matter.

Nobody I know or have ever met would drive a 1/2 ton truck with a tonneau cover on it that's secured through a controlled border without wondering what was under that cover, especially if daddy wouldn't ride with you and said he'd follow in a rented car.

Either she's the most trusting soul in the world or the dumbest.

I don't know how old she was at the time and how their relationship was, and if that truck was always covered. Maybe he told her they had to leave the truck in the US (sold?), that's why the rental, or whatever excuse he made up, and if she was 17 or something...

I still think it's a little odd that she didn't suspect something?

Here honey drive this truck across the border for daddy and whatever you do don't look under the cover. Oh, and by the way I'll be following in a rented car just to make sure you don't have any problems.

IMO and I may be completely off base but I really think his concience got the better of him and he decided to take the fall for the whole thing just to get her off even though she was involved.
