Seems.... kinda dumb to mess with people like this.

My thoughts as well. I'm curious to hear how they justify that one.

The timing may be odd, but if I recall, those buildings went up in record time. It's not surprising then if they were built like crap.

My guess: some engineer was up at 11 PM doing the work on this, concluded that the buildings were unsafe, and because engineers can go to jail if they knowingly allow people to live in an unsafe building, did his due diligence and immediately notified the authorities. Probably just a matter of when the flaw was discovered and how quickly action could be taken.

Sounds like a pissing contest to me.....The building complex was structurally sound seven years ago, why not now? What has changed?

Apparently there is an ongoing court battle between the condo group and the developer over deficiencies in the buildings and the order came to evacuate at 4:30 Friday afternoon. Scary stuff to have buildings crumbling.

Not just the inspectors. The construction company and their "Red Seal tradesmen" are not really deserving of their title.

A building can not fall apart like that if it was built according to code.

Not just the inspectors. The construction company and their "Red Seal tradesmen" are not really deserving of their title.

A lack of knowledge is the basis for this^^ statement. You know better than that B! 'Red Seal' has nothing to do with this equation.
'Journeymen' are to be on all construction sites supervising apprentices. This is up to the general contractor to make sure of. I have been on many sites, in Ft. Mac. as well as around Western Canada, and there is a serious lack of certified journeymen in all the trades. Consequently, and obviously wrong to do so, contractors hire 'whoever has the lowest price'!'Red Seal' means that the journeyman cares enough about their trade to take the initiative, time and 'personally incur the expense which they are never reimbursed for', for the training required to meet or exceed all provinces requirements. They have then the designation of 'Journeyman Consultant'. If 'Red Seals' had been working on this project, we wouldn't even be having this conversation!

Red Seal means they wrote the exam, not that they care.

I don't agree with your latest statement tho. NOBODY did their jobs, and you, just as I, do not know whether they were Red Seal tradesmen or not. It should NEVER EVER have been given the thumbs up. Not by the contractor, nor by the inspectors.
