A 56-year-old British Columbia grandmother has become the oldest reservist to graduate from basic training with the Canadian Forces, beating 20-somethings in the gruelling training process.
Dompierre said she didn't get any breaks on account of being more seasoned than the rest.
I don't want to bitch or something, but why would you? Just because you're older?
Most do, the fact is older people break quicker and stay broken longer than the 20 somethings. So many feel that they should be entitled to less strenuous training. I got into argument with a guy who felt that tech and office trades should have a special PLQ for them. My position was, if you are in the military you MUST be prepared to accept any basic soldiering role. I dont care what trade you are, a soldier must be able to shoot, march and lead. However I do think it is cool that she was able to get a few years in before she has to retire.

But that says more about them than about her. If you want to qualify, you should be able to make the qualifiers. If you can't, you go. Regardless of age. There's no exception in the military. Can you imagine? You are in a combat situation and you have to rely on your peers, but you can't on 1, because they have "special breaks"? Ain't working... "Hey guys, I am more special than you, I am entitled to your help more than the guy who just lost his leg!"

Career choices in our early days can lead to prolonged problems as we age. Jumping out of planes in my 20's seemed like a great idea and lots of fun, but now that I'm closer to 50 than I am to 40 my body doesn't cease to remind me of my younger days.
