As someone who has gone to a few dances a little tipsy, I fail to see how this endanges other students. I also think it's unethical for mandatory breathalyzer tests.

My prom did this. It didn't bother anyone.

We weren't allowed to leave, unless we had a ride from the parents and teachers supervising the grad.

I don't see how not allowing tipsy students in is going to do anything about the kid getting drunk anyway.
    I like Shep's solution.

safe grads worked best. Students were kept in a safe locale and allowed to do what everyone knew they'd be doing.

We had one of the first. The year before, Grad parties took place out in the bush, far enough off the beaten track that the cops couldn't be bothered to traipse through the bush for a mile or two, or out to an isloated farm

My school had one. It was great. Got drunk with my friends, no chance of driving drunk, and had a ride home. One of the best nights of my youth.
