Federal prisoners are complaining their Charter rights are being violated because theyre not being supplied with clean needles to inject their illegal drugs
?Our government has a zero tolerance policy for drugs in our institutions,? Public Safety minister Vic Toewes repeated in the House of Commons after being questioned about the lawsuit. ?That is why we made a commitment during the last election to develop drug-free prisons. Drug use among prisoners dramatically reduces their chances of successful rehabilitation.?
How's that commitment working out?
Giving needles to prisoners seems like the stupidest idea I've ever heard. Even if the stuff was legal on the outside. But many of these people wouldn't be in there if it was.
Federal prisoners are complaining their Charter rights are being violated because theyre not being supplied with clean needles to inject their illegal drugs the same drugs that probably landed them behind bars in the first place.
I didn't know "right to clean needles to inject illegal drugs with" was in the Charter of Rights...

It's under the subsection that defines the right to choose to be a worthless, sponging, addicted asshole for your entire life.

Slippery slope when you have government supported injection sites on the outside.
Yeah sure, give them all the needles they want. Very handy when you want to stab another prisoner.. or a guard.
Set up injection rooms in the prison, but keep the syringes there. Since we don't seem to even have the ability of keeping drugs out of prison, might as well make the use safer. Give the prisoners all the heroin and pot they want, it will make things a lot quieter for the guard, maybe lay some of them off.

And then when the prisoners kill themselves with a drug overdose their families will sue for wrongful death.
Well that's the point of injection rooms and access to regulated heroin. Very low chance of overdose. In fact Insite, even with junkies injecting street drugs has reduced overdose deaths because help is immediately available.

I would have thought the prisoners' ability to smuggle illegal drugs into prison would be the main problem.
You'd think that, but then you'd be thinking logically.
It's a skill that seems to be in short supply, especially when it comes to government and the bureaucracy.

That's a good section of the Charter...

No thanks.
Why not provide a safe "rape area" where one can force another man into a room with padded walls and condoms for 'safe' sex?
