Because of the recent flooding, the penning competition at the upcoming Calgary Stampede will be moved from the Saddledome, while horse cutting and vintage tractor pull events will be cancelled.
Carly Rae Jepsen, Tim McGraw, Dixie Chicks and KISS all see concerts in Calgary's Saddledome cancelled due to flooding.
The shows will not go on.
Flames boss Ken King says it will be months before the Saddledome is fully operational again in the wake of flooding in Stampede Park, meaning some high profile concerts will bypass Cowtown.
King said contingency plans are in place for Flames training camps and pre-season games in case the facility is still not ready.
The Calgary Stampede also announced the cancellations of four major concerts: Carly Rae Jepsen, Tim McGraw, Dixie Chicks and KISS, which officials say they hope to eventually reschedule.
The Bruno Mars concert, slated for July 17 at the Dome, has also been postponed.
King said officials wanted to make sure the facility would, in fact, not be ready in time for the concerts before making the announcement.
Meanwhile, cleanup and setup work was ongoing on the Stampede grounds Tuesday.
Reclamation of the infield and chuckwagon track may mean this is the safest track ever, said Warren Connell, vice-president of park development.
Parts of the infield and track were covered by eight to 14 ft. of water following the flooding that began June 20.
It took nearly two days just to pump out the water, said Connell.
The Calgary Stampede Parade, which will be a go Friday, following Sneak-A-Peek Thursday evening, will include an entry of first responders and other helpers in the wake of the flooding.
A normal city would transfer the concerts to the football stadium instead of cancelling them outright. Calgary's stadium though is surrounded by neighbourhoods full of whiny old ninnies that complain like crazy about the noise, even about the ten football games the Stamps play each year, which is why we always get bypassed by the groups that can fill up outdoor arenas. Great town most of the time but we have too many moments where the idiots and perpetual crabby-pants end up winning.

Glad to hear it's not just us. I get so aick of the defeatists and whiners areound here sometimes. Too many people with no vision. Not to say the visionaries don't need to be hauled back to earth once in a while, but I'd sure rather listen to their grandiose flights of fancy versus the grumpy old farts who fill the letters page of the papers.
We get our summer festival and outdoor concerts on the Plains of Abraham every year in July... a few whiners of course, but I think they tolerate because they know this is a good thing for the city.

I think I will need a place to crash...
I'm sure the old horny guy won't turn you down. At my age? For a place to crash, I'm sure he won't, just because I am awesome

I've always thought the Ski Jump at COP should have been turned into a concert bowl of some kind for summer concerts. They neglected it all these years and Mother Earth is starting to reclaim it, that's a shame.

They tried it one year way back when with a Bryan Adams concert. But a sudden thunderstorm came blistering through and they had to shut it down about four songs in before someone got electrocuted.

Now that is tragic. That kid has a set of pipes on her and it'd probably do a lot of people good to have her sing to them.

Calgary knows how to hold events which is why the Indy should have gone there instead of Edmonton where it was driven into the wall.
That was the promoters, not the city. Edmonton knows how to hold events just fine.
