May he rest in peace. He's written some amazing books, including my favorite: Red Storm Rising. Your legacy will be long lasting

Oh my God. My favorite author of all time. I literally *just* pre-ordered his new book on Amazon last night.

I'm really sorry to hear this. RIP.

Is it a book he actually wrote, or one of those shadow authors the Tom Clancy brand used way too much?

    Probably the latter.

Tom Clancy was possibly more qualified to run the CIA then past directors.

He's currently more qualified to run the CIA than the current Director.

His first five or six books were great - after that though, the stories kind of went off the deep end and became a platform for his political views. The worst was when he spun series off using his name but written by other authors (Endwar is particularly brutal).

Still, I do own his classics (in no particular order - Red Storm Rising, Red October, Cardinal in the Kremlin, Patriot Games, Sum of All Fears, Clear and Present Danger & Without Remorse) and freely admit he was a master storyteller.

    RIP Mr. Clancy

There is an old saying that any author (or composer, creative person) has but one story to tell and they tell it over and over.

What Boots said. IMO, everything after Rainbow Six felt recycled, stale and derivative. Nevertheless, he spun some good yarns and will be missed.
