Under the UN Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), if the tectonic plate the land is on is part of our territory, it's undisputed that it's part of our country. Defence is not necessary.
We had 10 years from ratification to file our territorial claim, and that is nearly up. That's what all the Coast Guard ships have been doing - mapping the arctic to stake our claims.
Now we'll see who is willing to put up or shut up.

With Canada's vaunted force of nuclear powered attack submarines and her outstanding fleet of ice-breaking destroyers and cruisers.

The 3.2 update is out now. In 3.2 the CinC demand is as follows:

Stop using logic here - can't you see this thread is only for bashing the opposite side of the political spectrum and/or the Canadian military?
