Some time this week, Canada is expected to make its case to the world to dramatically expand its boundaries by an area equivalent to the size of all three Prairie provinces.

And how do we plan to enforce this claim?

The Russians have already planted their flag, there. Aren't we all supposed to quiver in fear in the face of their magnificence?

Why bother. The U.S. will go ahead and take it anyway, believing that it is part of their manifest destiny to own all of North America, some day.

    With friends like that ...

No thanks. Some Canadians still have pride in their country.

They certainly don't seem to have much issue with the excessive fecal leakage of the partisan extremists down there, however.

The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea governs which nations exert what kinds of controls over their surrounding waters. In addition to the 22-kilometre territorial waters and the 370-kilometre exclusive economic zones, coastal countries are allowed to claim additional sea floor if they can show their continental shelf extends beyond the economic zone.

Under the UN Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), if the tectonic plate the land is on is part of our territory, it's undisputed that it's part of our country. Defence is not necessary.

We had 10 years from ratification to file our territorial claim, and that is nearly up. That's what all the Coast Guard ships have been doing - mapping the arctic to stake our claims.

Now we'll see who is willing to put up or shut up.

With Canada's vaunted force of nuclear powered attack submarines and her outstanding fleet of ice-breaking destroyers and cruisers.

You've got that game too, do you? Do you have 2.0 or the new 3.1 version that also includes drones that shout out "This is Canadian Territory. Please leave as soon as possible." ... in FRENCH and ENGLISH!

The 3.2 update is out now. In 3.2 the CinC demand is as follows:

"We're very sorry for living in a place you'd like to own and we're very sorry to offend you by existing but if you'd be so kind as to sod off we'd be much appreciative! Cheers!"

Stop using logic here - can't you see this thread is only for bashing the opposite side of the political spectrum and/or the Canadian military?

The other side ain't much better either. Personally, I'd rather not deal with extremists of any stripe or faith, thank you very much.
