Here's what the CBC is calling for the smelling salts over...

Unsurprisingly some of the local FN's definitely don't care for her. Last time I was in the area a few weeks back I got an earful on her, unprompted, from an old friend of mine who is a member of the local FN.

Tamara skirted the line by attacking the "entitlements", actual or otherwise, rather than the people.

I didn't get the impression that the local FN note that distinction, but that's probably irrelevant to her. She isn't trying to appeal to them after all.

So what exactly did they print that was untrue? Crown Lands are just that, Crown Lands and not owned by Natives despite what the fuck they seem to think.

Reserves are Crown Land, whereas Aboriginal Titled Lands and Treaty Lands aren't so Switzer's claim that the information printed is erroneous...... is erroneous.


So hopefully the paper will continue to print this woman's ad's and people like Switzer will learn that being born Native doesn't give you the right to intimidate others into silence just because you don't agree with them. But, on a side note, I can see who Ms Johnson is targeting with these ads. Alot of peoplew in TBay are tired of seeing the Natives flown in from remote reserves to go shopping and live it up in hotels like the Landmark all on what they perceive to be the taxpayers dime.

So, it should come as no big shock to the Anishinabek's that these type of ads are being run since it's just politics, a game they're very accustomed to playing.

Tsilhqot�in decision - in BC, at least, there soon won't be any crown lands since it will be so easy for the natives to claim ownership. And I'm sure at some point they will claim ownership of private lands too..

They allready have, check out the Algonquin land claim agreed to in Ontario. It takes in Ottawa and Algonquin Park. They have said that no cottage or land owners will lose their property and nothing will change in Algonquin Park.. sure... give 'em a few years and see what happens.

To be fair here, a Native group did the same thing on the Bruce Peninsula quite a few years ago. They said that no cottage or land owners would lose their property, and so far no one has AFAIK.

I'm still waiting for "new Canadians" to rise up against this sense of entitlement from the FN. How many years do we "owe" these bastards something?

But, doesn't it often seem that that's exactly what they believe? "Culture of entitlement" seems to be the onl part that one could argue with, or even consider insulting. They say that the taxpayer owes them, and the support that things like Caledonia and various illegal blockades and such get would suggest to a reasonable person that they do consider themselves above the law.

Also have trouble with the idea that newspaper shouldn't "allow" an ad. If the ad isn;t sladerous, libelous, or hate speech, then all that matters is that the cheque clears. Imo

In Canada it's just not polite to point that out. Glad the paper had the balls to print it. The native's perspective is certainly reinforced by the recent court decision but God I hope Second Nations people wake up and see what's happening. We are creating a permanent, race based upper class that will still demand all the benefits of being government wards. In BC, they'll demand all the revenues of derived from development on "their" land, won't want to pay taxes, and still demand the government provide education, healthcare and housing. What a mess.

My only hope is that governments allowed things like Caledonia to happen exactly because they were afraid of a court ruling in the Natives favor. Now that that's settled. I hope they have the guts to push back. There's no way we can have 3% of the population essentially owning everything. (That's all the natives, status and metis as well). We're bending over backward so far, our head will come out below our balls. Guess the benefit is it will make sex a lot more interesting.

I'm not sure what right they had to bar removal of the buildings. The land may have been theirs, but the cottages sure as hell weren't.
