They've been 'loaned' two British built Merlin engines, but the plane takes the US built ones. They are still adapting the engine to work and hope it will be up soon.

Read another story this morning that said all is good and they're ready to put the prop back on. The other great thing about this is that donations to the Canadian Lanc have soared from the British since this happened.

There are probably hundreds of old Rolls Royce mechanics in the UK, falling over each other to help with those Merlin engines.

the plane takes the US built ones.

Yeah. I guess that the Packard Merlins would be more rare over there. The Mustangs used those.

She flies over our house quite regularly. My wife's grandfather was an electrical engineer at A,V. Roe, brought in from Scotland to work on that very aircraft ... and a few hundred others like her.

    Good memories.

Back in another lifetime I worked at Avro's, Greengate, Chadderton on wing stress test components for the Avro Vulcan.

My wife's grandfather ended up working on Lancastrians, then the Avro Jetliner, The CF-100 Canuck, The Avrocar, The Arrow, of course ... then Mercury, Gemini and Apollo, of course.

Florida is a long way from Edinburgh.
