A family dog may have helped save the life of a 12-year-old girl who has Type 1 diabetes after it woke up her mother in the middle of the night when her daughter's blood-glucose level had dropped dangerously low.
My dog often comes before some 'family' members. The detachment commander here and I were talking after our dog was killed last fall. She said she'd feel less guilt over having to shoot a human being than a dog.
It's fantastic isn't it, what dogs can be trained to do to assist people with various health issues.
This particular dog didn't even have any formal training yet recognized when his family member was in distress and responded. She is a very fortunate girl.
