The tree, estimated to be the third thickest Douglas fir on record, was caught in the middle of a 700-hectare fire that swept the woods outside Pemberton

Great stuff guys, not only is the tree over 1,000 years old and therefore well worth saving but the terrain in those parts can be pretty horrific. There are trails, so one can hike in with a few difficulties but I wouldn't want to be there for the sole purpose of stamping out a forest fire!!
