Yea, there is a large (bottom left) special box for parcels. They put the parcel in there, drop the key in your box. You open the box, take your parcel and put the key in another slot. Their excuse 'was the key was lost'. What bullshit! Get another key, assholes!
Just as bad as the bullshit I have to put up with! Our superduper mailbox doesn't have one of those, so they leave parcels at the 'corner' store a few miles away, which is a postal outlet. But they can't be bothered, so they keep your parcel for 4 or 5 days, and send it back as 'unclaimed' if it takes too much space.
The fuckers have cost me $5200 so far, because they sent back a certificate I got from a course because I didn't pick it up fast enough. No certificate, no company reimbursement! I was on 2 weeks vacation.
Couple months ago, ordered some special plates from the US.
Email with the order said please please please for the love of God pack them well, the plates are traveling to Italy.
Box shows up, to the shock and horror of the wife and I.
Postal idiot, with fragile stickers all over the damn thing, tossed the box over the gate in our driveway while we were out
The gate is over 7 feet tall.
Opened the box, plates were fine, all perfectly packed.
Surviving the trip across the ocean was one thing, surviving the utter fucking idiocy of the Italian Imafuckingretardedwopwhodeservestobewhippedforbeingsofuckingstupid is another.
That's pretty much a classic example of privatization-gone-wrong because CP obviously hired out to a subcontractor that was either badly informed of the proper parcel-delivery procedure or simply didn't care. There's no way in hell that a package that size shouldn't be taken right to the customer's door.
Odds are that the Tories are going to lose the election. One of the first things the Dippers or Libs should do after they win is to reverse all the changes to Canada Post that have been brought it. It's austerity without any thinking at all behind it, just the visual of "we're saving your taxpayer money!" without any regard at all for quality of service or efficiency.

Thank you US customer service !
You remind of years ago when my brother sent me a set of three onyx plates for a tea set and when I received them all three were broken beyond recognition despite having been packed in a custom Styrofoam shipping container. When my brother pursued it with the US Postal Service (which he worked for and still does) the Postal Inspector identified US Customs at Long Beach as the culprit. They deliberately broke the plates arguing that they may have been made out of drugs.
That was around 1986 or so.
The Customs people are so good these days that when I received some 'machine parts' from overseas the Pelican box they came in hadn't been opened at all.
When assembled those machine parts became my (legal) 20mm recoilless rifle. But, yeah, .

You are correct. All of the BS about cutting costs at Canada Post is absurd. They have a supervisor for every 10 people which amounts to about 4000 and they make a base salary of $62 000. So,if they made a reasonable cut of 50% to the number of supervisors that they have it would amount to $124 MILLION per year. The upper 23 people in the corporation make an average of $500 000 per year. The middle people are nearly unquantifiable and their jobs have no accountability but the crown corporation is focused on screwing the workers.
The CMBs (Community Mail Boxes) that they have purchased to replace door to door delivery were all made in the USA and were winter tested in Vancouver. Unreal.
The CEO and Directors got a $2.5 or $3 BILLION loan about 7 years ago to buy new machines to sort the letter sized mail...yeah, the same mail that they have been saying is declining in volume for years. They also spent some of that money on replacing equipment that didn't need to be replaced.
One final note: the carrier may have been in a mad rush as they are pressured constantly and left that parcel there by accident OR an angry customer could have put that parcel there and said that the carrier left it there. There is likely not much chance that the final scenario is the case but stranger things have happened at the post office.
