On the plus side though, all the people with Harper Derangement Syndrome can finally put their meds back on the shelf till at least the next election when they'll have to find another bogeyman to vilify. Unless of course they turn on the current PM like a pack of rabid dogs when he fails to deliver on most if not all of his shoot for the stars promises.

Unfortunately if this election is any indication and history is truly written by the victors, his legacy will likely be that he, along with Mulroney, Chretien and Trudeau was another of most hated PM's we've ever had.

Stephen Harper is a control freak. To his credit, he doesn't make rash decisions, but to his detriment he also never changes his opinion if he receives better information that he should change his opinion. Since he took leadership, it has been "Stephen Harpers' Conservative Party", not the Reform Party or Progressive Conservative Party which it formed from the corpses of.
Preston Manning wouldn't have authorized a program to spy on every electronic communication made by every citizen in the country, or neglect our duties in maintaining a clean environment in which to live, or negotiated a trade deal that will continue the trend of exporting raw materials only to import back finished products. Ron Dart wouldn't have run a campaign designed to promote bigotry or divide Canadians into 'camps', thereby alienating the more moderate in the Party, or eliminated key information needed to make long term decisions on the economy and infrastructure by eliminating the long form census.
If Stephen Harper is responsible for every ill in Canada, it's because he wanted it that way. He pushed the buttons, he laid out the policy, and he ensured it was followed. The �in-and-out� scandal, Gutting of Veteran's Affairs, handing Afghan Prisoners over for torture, Robocalls, Maxime Bernier, Mike Duffy, Patrick Brazeau, Pamela Wallin; his tussle with Justice Beverley McLachlin, the $50 million Muskoka legacy fund, being held in Contempt of Parliament - twice! Peter McKay and his Cormorant Limousine . . . it's a long list

They may try, but I really don't see how they would have an argument. Even when the Democrats had a majority in the House and Senate from 2009-2011, President Obama needed a handful of GOP senators to pass anything due to the Senate's 60-vote cloture rule (the silent filibuster is dumb, but that's a post for another day). President Obama could honestly say members of the GOP were keeping him from passing legislation.

I said started with, not ended with. As for being a control freak well, he was just following in a long line of previous PM's who used the Office as their own personal playground to do as they pleased.
Harper may have pushed buttons but, the buttons he pushed were the left wing, rainbow and unicorn crowds buttons because, he didn't dance to their drum and for the record you're giving him far to much credit for the negative things that happened on his watch while forgetting any of the positives.
