Maurice Strong, whose work helped lead to the landmark climate summit that begins in Paris on Monday, has died at 86, the head of the UN's environmental agency said Saturday.
Yup. The best tribute to the biggest bagman in Canadian political history is to not mention any of the crooked crap he was connected to during the Chretien years. Way to go, CBC! Keep feeding that memory hole, assholes! Put all of Moe's hijinks like Power Corp and the Oil-for-Food scam in Saddam's Iraq on the shelf next to Chretien's promises to get rid of the GST, tear up NAFTA, and all the other stuff from the "golden days" you don't want anyone to remember!
I met him when I was very young. They lived in our immediate neighbourhood in a suburb of Montreal and I went to school with his son in the early grades. I remember that they had an elephant's foot stool or stand in their house! This, I guess, was before he "saw the light". I also remember Strong's wife publically campaigning against the use of coloured toilet paper, which came in pink, yellow and blue at the time and was commonplace. Anyway, somewhere along the way, Maurice dumped his wife and children and they moved on. This was all before he was rich and famous.
Climate this, climate that, and not one word about him and Demarais basically owning the Liberal Party of Canada.
Truly, well done CBC !
Was there ever a warrant for his arrest on the UN Oil-for-Food scandal. I know he was hiding out in China the last time I heard about him.
Here's one of his quotes they should put on his tombstone.
~ "we may get to the point where the only way of saving the world will be for industrial civilization to collapse." ~
Lose the equivocation and that was his life's work.
Well that and to get rich doing it. He was kind of the Canadian George Soros.
