"The rest of the oath talks about being a good citizen of Canada that's relevant but why put that in the context of the Queen?"
Because she is the Queen of Canada. The symbolic head of state. Thereby you are swearing allegiance to Canada. She was the Queen of Canada when you first stepped foot in Canada, that was as well a known fact back then as it is now. you made that choice when you decided to make Canada your home you ingrate.
It's the Irishman that in spite of living in Canada 30 plus years refusing to become a citizen because he won't swear loyalty "to the 'Queen of England' for all the atrocities taking place in Ireland". Yu are not you idiot, here she is the Queen of Canada, different queen. Yet again a known fact. Nobody is holding a gun to these people's heads to become Canadian citizens but if they want to have the privilege of calling themselves one then follow the laws and take the oath as it is. Next they'll want to change the national anthem.
Bah. He's obeying the letter of the law. He can renounce the oath all he wants, it's not official, the Queen is still his head of state. Just some people looking for attention.
"Lemmy" said Natural born Canadians needn't say any oath for citizenship so no one else should have to either.
Natural born citizens don't have a say in their citizenhip, this is true. All others do, it is enshrined in law that the oath is there is a country due south of us that fits that bill has very similar customs and traditions, probably should've moved there. As one that has actually taken this oath I can honestly say it's one of the proudest days of my life.
It's funny that the court agrees with him tho. How many natural born Canadians don't want the Queen and find it unnecessary?
He wants to swear allegiance to everything else, just not that part.
'Go back to where you came from'?? REALLY?? What happened to what Canada really stands for? Freedom of speech? Oh wait, I guess that is only when people agee with you. Well, the court agrees with him.
"BartSimpson" said You know, if someone isn't willing to affirm their allegiance to your country why would you want to let them in?
Because we are all residents of this planet and no one ought to have a say in where any other human chooses to hang his hat.
"And the sign said, anybody caught trespassing would be shot on sight. So, I jumped on the fence and yelled at the house: "Hey, what gives you the right? To put up a fence to keep me out or to keep mother nature in. If God was here, He'd tell you to your face, man, you're some kinda sinner."
As I said no one is putting a gun to his head to become a Canadian citizen and if he wants to be anti-monarch I have no problem with that, hell in Britain they certainly have the anti-monarchy league and supporters. He want's to change the oath for his personal beliefs and it's then that I say fuck off. I swore allegiance to Queen and country to become a proud Canadian citizen and I welcome all those that are willing to swear that same oath that I took. But I'll be damned if I let this fuck lessen that for me. if he has a problem with it fine don't take the oath, it's that simple.

Party at Lemmy's, don't bother taking your shoes off, as it's your house too.
