Poor old andy, soon he will be condemned to the basement of his daughter's house forever, cuz he's white.

It's the same when people rent out a basement suite or room in their house and prefer a specific race or gender which is female because nothing can ever go wrong renting to only females.

This is like Bart's "gay cake" thing again. You should be able to refuse service to anyone you want. :|

Yep. If it's your property, your business, or etc. of yours then it should be up to you who you choose to deal with.

We had a minor debacle down here earlier this year because the "escort" girls on Back Pages (like Craigslist) often posted "No African-Americans".

I suppose some judge should order them to **** black guys since the business these girls are in is arguably just as public as a bakery.

(The courts punted on this issue because the escort services were unlicensed and therefore the plaintiff had no 'standing')

Correct. When I had my own networking business we refused to do work for accounting and lawyer firms. They were always the last to pay their bills. Caused us endless problems.

Some people feel comfortable renting to others from the same culture like the Chinese do in the Vancouver area.

That's funny. I remember the same thing for a small manufacturing company I worked for years ago. Provincial and Federal Governments also had no concept of what Net 30 days meant. It seemed the bigger the project the tougher the collection was to do.

I live in an area with lots of Indian people, they usually list "vegetarian only" to discriminate. Works for me, it saves me the trouble of looking at apartments that I will not hear back from anyway.

Let's face it. Landlords will rent to whoever they want anyway. Employers will offer the job to whoever they want. I work at an all white company in a 10% white area. I'm sure they saw my Irish name when I got the call back.

Every nail salon in the area is always all Vietnamese girls.

Why waste eachothers time? It's nearly impossible to prove discrimination, why not just be open about it? People hate eachother. Good business owners will hire the most qualified but not if it is going to disrupt a functional work culture.

When you go into an Indian restaurant you expect to see Indian people working there preparing delicious meals.

It's true, I love that about my neighbourhood.

Also, I am not sure how discrimination works when it comes to employment but how can restaurants like Joey's have their entire serving staff as young hot females?

The must be breaking every discrimination law in the book and it is plain to see but where do we draw the line? Business owners should be free to hire who they want or else have the government choose all of their employees for them because no workplace demographic matches the local demographic exactly, at least in Toronto.

    Why even have discrimination laws?

You are correct. It is what it is.

I had a supervisor years ago who told me how funny she found it when people would meet her after knowing her only by name (mostly business-wise) as she was married to a German fellow and used his name though she was Chinese. She always though her accent was a give-away but people would still be taken aback when they met her.

Hah! I wasn't the only one that noticed, then.
They were also the buttsqueaking cheapest buggers of them all too. We want the $39 wireless routers, the boxes with the Celeron processors and minimum RAM and hard drive specs and BTW who in hell does your outfit think it is charging $60 an hour? Us?

:D You got that right. Just because you run a small business they always tried to cheap you out.

    Celeron processors.
